So this is my very first mandala. I've always loved them, tonight I decided to create one. Since I lack a compass though, I did this all digitally. I started out in Corel Draw X4, which is a vector art program, and one I find to be more user-friendly than Adobe Illustrator when it comes to the creation of vector artwork. The outline of the pattern itself took me roughly an hour and a half. Honestly, it would have probably been easier with a pencil and paper because the eraser would have worked a lot faster than breaking all the objects! LOL
After that I exported it for Photoshop (and imagine that, Corel even has a handy export to .psd function! C: ) so that I could color the image in. I can't say I'm super overly in love with the colors I ended up with, however they are a vast improvement over the ones I tried first! And considering this is the very first mandala I've ever done, it's very much a learning experience. I don't hate the colors either though, I just feel like there's something I'm not seeing (yet). Thankfully, my Photoshop knowledge really started to kick in about thirty minutes into working on (poorly) hand-shading with my tablet. All the shading is now even thanks to working with selections and gradients. Yeah! Makes it much easier on my OCD LMAO.
Overall the coloring took up another two hours, and then I suffered through thirty minutes of utterly crashing Photoshop to the point that I had to restart my computer to relaunch the program so I could save a file that could be used on the internet. All because I goofed and forgot to resize the file before I attempted to save for the web. My bad. >_>;
The file I was working on is HUUUUUUGE. That way I can always go back and make it different (smaller) sizes.
Overall it took me three and a half hours to create, four hours if you include the crash. Not bad for my first one if I do say so myself. And the glorious thing is that it will only improve from here!
As it is I may print this and zentangle in it and make a zendala. We shall see.

Great color!
